Feelings Lie: Why Truth Must Lead
What the Bible Really Says About Emotions, Truth, and Why You Shouldn’t Trust Your Feelings
We’re living in a time where “follow your heart” is basically gospel.
💭 But what if your heart is leading you straight into confusion, burnout, or sin?
💭 What if your feelings are loud—but completely wrong?
Let’s talk about it.
❤️ Your Heart Isn’t a Compass—It’s a Construction Zone
“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”
— Jeremiah 17:9 NLT
Your heart might mean well—but it’s not built to lead. It’s meant to be led.
That’s why the Bible says to guard it, not follow it.
⚠️ Feelings can be intense. Real. Overwhelming.
But real doesn’t always mean true.
🚫 Just because something feels urgent doesn’t mean it’s wise.
🚫 Just because it feels good doesn’t mean it’s godly.
🚫 Just because it hurts doesn’t mean it’s hopeless.
✝️ Jesus Felt Deeply—But He Followed the Father
Jesus knew what it was like to be overwhelmed. He felt grief, rejection, sorrow, and even dread.
In the garden before the cross, Jesus told His disciples:
“My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.”
(Matthew 26:38)
But what did He pray?
“Not my will, but yours be done.”
(Luke 22:42)
Even when everything in Him felt like running, He obeyed the Father.
That’s our model:
Feelings acknowledged. Truth obeyed.
🚗 What Happens When We Let Emotions Drive?
Letting feelings lead usually looks like this:
✅ Conviction turns into shame
✅ Hope turns into anxiety
✅ Discernment turns into fear
✅ Identity turns into insecurity
We go from “I feel forgotten” to “I must not matter.”
From “I feel anxious” to “God must not be with me.”
That’s a lie.
💣 Satan doesn’t need to destroy you if he can just deceive you.
And emotions are one of his favorite tools.
📖 So What Do We Do With Our Feelings?
God doesn’t tell us to ignore our emotions. He just says not to worship them.
Here’s how we keep truth in the driver’s seat:
1️⃣ Test Your Emotions Against Scripture
Your mood may shift.
God’s Word never will.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
(Psalm 119:105)
2️⃣ Preach to Yourself
David didn’t wait for someone else to pep talk him.
He spoke to his soul.
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God!”
(Psalm 42:5)
🎙️ If your feelings are loud, let the truth be louder.
3️⃣ Let Truth Lead, Not Trail
Feelings can follow faith—but never lead it.
Truth comes first. Always.
🌊 Truth Isn’t Trending—But It’s Life-Giving
This world will shout:
“Live your truth.”
But God says:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
(John 14:6)
If you’re tired of the emotional rollercoaster, there’s another way.
✨ A steadier way. A truer way.
And His name is Jesus.
🤍 If You’re Struggling to Trust Truth…
You are not your feelings.
You are not your worst moment.
You are not defined by what they said.
And you are not alone.
You are seen, loved, and invited—just as you are—into something better than self-reliance.
You’re invited into truth.
🙏 Want to Know the One Who Is Truth?
Jesus is not a myth or metaphor—He’s the living truth who came to rescue us from sin, lies, and death.
If you're ready to stop living by your feelings and start living by faith, here's how:
Pray this:
Jesus, I’ve been led by so many voices—especially my own emotions. But today I want to follow You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Forgive my sins, make me new, and teach me how to walk in truth. I surrender to You. Amen.
If you prayed that and meant it—welcome home.

God Bless you ma
Preach to yourself is so relatable.
Preach to myself that I am not alone, I am not my feelings nor inner chatters. And I am well loved .
